Asset Details:

In 2007 the 16" Tahiti Gas Export Pipeline will be laid from the Tahiti Spar located in the Gulf of Mexico Green Canyon Block 641 to the existing 16" Discovery Pipeline located in Green Canyon Block 294.

Project Details:

GATE, LLC was involved in evaluating the corrosion aspects of a number of commissioning options for the Tahiti Gas Export Pipeline, as well as the qualification of a candidate hydrotest chemical. It is desired for the hydrotest chemical to be injected upon flooding and discharged subsea without monitoring. The commissioning options addressed included:
  • Hydrotesting with unfiltered seawater.
  • Hydrotesting with filtered seawater.
  • Corrosion due to air pockets.
  • Hydrotesting with chemically treated seawater.
Following GATE, LLC recommendations, Williams have selected an appropriate chemical treatment program that will ensure that the hydrotest fluids will not impact the immediate or long-term integrity of the pipeline in the period between flooding and system commissioning. The selected treatment option is environmentally sound and has also negated the need for subsea intervention following pipeline flooding.
